Cannot find an overload for "Insert" and the "value" argument type
I'm trying to append a record to a list inside a collection. I can do this if I reference the element by its index:
var list = new List();
//....
object o = list[x]; // Now I can do: o.Insert(0, new object())
But I'm trying to append to the list using a variable index. So I've got this:
var index = 0;
var list = new List();
//....
List.Insert(index, new object());
// but I'm getting the following error:

I've got no idea why the compiler is asking for a value and not a reference.
What is it telling me, that the compiler is expecting me to assign a value and not the reference?

It's telling you that you are using an object (List.Insert(int, object)), and not the List.
You need to provide a value:
var list = new List();
//....
object o = list[x]; // Now I can do: o.Insert(0, new
